On March 10, Apple Pay officially stopped working in Russia. The first thing that comes to mind is a simple solution – change the region in the iPhone settings and make contactless payments without any problems. We tested this method – and it does not work. The fact is that restrictions were introduced specifically for paying with cards of Russian banks, and not specifically in our region. So artificially changing the location and deceiving Apple will not work. Another thing is that the blocking applies only to cards of Visa and Mastercard payment systems. If a Russian MIR card is linked to Apple Wallet (preferably from a bank that has not been sanctioned), contactless payments on the iPhone will work. We have tested this method many times: both at the Moscow metro terminals and in stores.
